The Washington Commandos is a franchise primarily recognized by the Arena Football League. The Commandos were one of four charter teams created along with the AFL in 1987. They debuted in 1987, playing the entire season, then skipped the 1988 season. They came back as the Maryland Commandos in 1989. In 1990, they changed back to their original Washington Commandos name before folding after the season.
